Former Speaker Larry Householder is humbled to once again serve the people of Ohio’s 72nd House District. Ohio 72 encompasses all of Perry and Coshocton Counties and half of Licking County.
Larry Householder represented the district from 1996-2004 before leaving due to term limits. He served as Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives from 2001-2004, after being unanimously elected by his colleagues from both sides of the aisle. Following his term as Speaker, he did not seek another elected statewide office and returned home to spend time with his family and raise his five sons.
Under his Speakership, Householder fought to get some of Ohio’s toughest legislation passed. He pushed through Ohio’s concealed carry law, despite heavy opposition. He ensured Ohio was the first state in the nation to defund Planned Parenthood, and other states adopted legislation similar to ours. He turned Ohio into one of the best states to do business by passing real tort reform.
Householder balanced every budget. He even authored the Ohio Coal Tax Credit to save thousands of good-paying mining jobs. He critically analyzed what change needed to happen in order to make this state successful, set goals and accomplished great things.
While Householder has been able to accomplish great things at the state level, there is still much work that needs to be done. He is working hard to ensure Ohioans succeed and believes strong conservative principles give us the opportunity to do so, including efficient government spending, inexpensive and abundant energy, strong schools, good roads, family values, low taxes and supporting policies that promote business growth and good stable jobs.
Ohio has fallen on tough times, and Householder has proven to be a leader who gets things done. In the past, he has been voted Best Legislator, Most Effective Legislator and Hardest Working Legislator. He has been endorsed by Ohio Right to Live, the National Rifle Association and Buckeye Firearms Association.
Prior to beginning his work in public service, Householder worked as an insurance agent for 20 years. He is also a produce farmer. He and his wife Taundra have five sons. The Householders reside in Glenford.
